Giannis for souvlakia and bifteki

Another local favourite in Toumpa is Giannis for souvlakia and soutzoukakia. Husband and wife duo Giannis and Eleni have been running the shop for 28 years now. It’s a simple and honest grill of the sort that is becoming increasingly rare, and another minimalist approach to cooking souvlakia and soutzoukakia that predisposes the use of good quality ingredients. The soutzoukaki here is a larger, fatter, round bifteki but, just like the good, slim soutzoukakia of Diavasi, Diagonios et al, prioritises good meat without using any spices. Served as a portion in a pita with hand-cut fries and, of course, mustard.
